On the West Coast with Margot part2

On the morning of our last day in Carmel we went to Point Lobos State Natural Reserve. Just a few miles south of Carmel, it is considered the “crown Jewel” in the California state park system. The park has beautiful vistas, interesting wild life, unique geological formations and is incredibly rich in flora and fauna. It is very popular with nature lovers, it has great hiking, wonderful for photography, painting and nature study. It is popular with divers, bird watches, and for checking out the sea animals including seals, sea lions, sea otters and gray whales. We spent the morning walking a few of the trails.

In San Francisco that evening we ate at Zuni Café, the restaurant where Margot is working. Zuni Cafe has been around since 1979. In 1987 Judy Rodgers became the chef, she has won numerous awards over the years. It is considered one of the top restaurants in the SF area. The menus changes daily and is based on seasonal organic ingredients cooked in a traditional French and Italian style. The chef goes to the local market twice a day to buy what looks best and then decides on the menu for that day. They are famous for their roasted chicken with bread salad dish, it takes an hour from when you order to get it to your table. It is roasted in a wood fired pizza oven at high temperatures. When in SF it is a must restaurant to go to, to try the roast chicken. You will not be disappointed.

Next up, a visit with Meredith in Jackson, WY.
